Downtown Big Timber
Visit our historic downtown for shopping, dining, and to see what life is like in a real Montana small town. Big Timber is located at the intersection of the I-90 Business Loop and Highway 191 and near the confluence of the Boulder and the Yellowstone rivers. McLeod Street leads south to the Boulder River valley.
Natural Bridge
Named for a gravity defying limestone arch that once spanned the Boulder River just above the falls, which collapsed in 1988, Natural Bridge is located up the Boulder from Big Timber. Follow McLeod St. up Highway 298, south of town, to reach the State Park.
Informational signs line the trails describing the geology and history of the area. The site features accessible paved trails and picnic tables and is the trailhead for Green Mountain Trail which will take you to a saddle offering a view of both the East Boulder and Main Boulder Valleys and both the river-fed corridors. These extended backcountry trails begin from the paved ADA-accessible viewpoints within the State Park.
Crazy Mountains
These are the most prominent mountains in Montana. The Crazies are northwest of Big Timber. There is some debate on the origin of the name of the island range, visit the Crazy Mountain Museum to learn more. The best view is at sunrise from Melville looking west.
